🌱 Where was coffee born?
Legend has it that it all started with an Ethiopian shepherd named Kaldi. When he noticed that his goats became acrobats after eating red berries 🐐💃, he shared his discovery with the monks. They made a drink from the berries to help them stay awake during long nights of prayer.
👉 And so coffee was born! ☕
🕌 Arabia and the first coffee revolution
In the 15th century, coffee found its home in the Arabian Peninsula. It was here that people first began roasting the beans and brewing the aromatic beverage. Coffee quickly became the drink of choice for intellectuals and artists. 🎨📚
In cities like Mecca and Cairo, the first coffeehouses, known as “ qahveh khaneh ,” opened . They became centers of discussion on politics, religion, and art – veritable “schools of wisdom”! 🏛️
🇪🇺 Coffee conquers Europe
Did you know that coffee was initially received with mixed feelings? 🤔
When it arrived in Venice in 1615, some called it “the devil’s drink” 👹. But Pope Clement VIII tried it and said: “This is too delicious to be the work of the devil!” 😇
Coffee quickly became popular throughout Europe. By the end of the 17th century, famous coffeehouses were operating in London and Paris, where merchants, artists, and writers met. 🖋️☕
