It is a confection originating from the north of Italy. Legend has it that the Milanese chef Ambrogione, while preparing Christmas dinner, told little Toni to watch the stove. Of course, Toni fell asleep, but when he woke up, the confection had already burned. In a panic, Toni used the ingredients he found in the kitchen and put the mixture in the oven. The head chef noticed the change, but since he didn't have time to prepare a new dessert, he offered the guests Toni's "masterpiece". Fortunately, everyone was delighted with the dessert, and Toni took the whole skin away. This is how il pane di Toni (Toni's bread) - panettone - was born .
